INNOVISION ANNOUNCES CALL FOR ENTRIES

Greenville, SC – InnoVision Board announces the 21^st Annual InnoVision Awards Call for Entries. The awards program recognizes innovative persons and organizations in South Carolina in six categories of technical innovation, as well as the special categories of Young Innovator and Townes Lifetime Achievement. Applications will be accepted until July 22, 2019.

The categories are:

New Technology Development: Recognizes a company or organization for the development of a new or improved technology.

Technology Integration: Recognizes a company or organization for an innovation arising from the integration of one or more existing technologies.
Education: Recognizes a company or organization for the innovative application or development of technology to positively impact education in South Carolina.

Community Service: Recognizes an organization for the innovative application or development of technology to improve the quality of life within South Carolina.

Sustainability: Recognizes an organization for development or application of technology to provide innovative support of environmental stewardship.

Small Enterprise: Recognizes an organization with fewer than 50 full-time employees or less than $20 million in revenue, for the innovative application or development of new technology.

Winners in each award category will be announced at the 21^st Annual InnoVision Awards Dinner on November 21, 2019.

Blaine Childress, Chair of the InnoVision Awards Board of Directors, is pleased to announce the 2018 InnoVision Award Winners, recognized during the Awards Dinner, held at the Spartanburg Marriott.

Community Service: Global Transplant Solutions introduced a new plastic package with a pleated resilient polymer design that permits clinicians to hygienically break up saline ice into a fine powder, to provide a slush for cooling human organs prior to harvesting.

Education:USC College of Engineering and Computing has created a new MS program in Technology Innovation that inspires entrepreneurial minded science and engineering students to take leaderships roles in product design in large organizations, and embark on new business ventures.

Small Enterprise: Tetramer Technologies synthesized a new polyimide coating with a service temperature of more than 350°C, to deliver superior performance to optical fibers, wires, and films.

Sustainability: Unlimited Power, LTD.engineered a modular, solar-powered charging and storage solution called HiveSystem™ which enables a 24-hour personal solar power grid.

Technology Development: Heatworks has invented a carbon electrode array that uses the minerals in the water supply to act as the heating element, yielding a 40% cost reduction and delivering cleaner hot water.

Technology Integration: Contec Healthcare has partnered with Tietex International to create PREMIRA®, a disposable microfiber mop that is revolutionizing the way that people clean in healthcare environments.

Young Innovator: Converse College created the Science, Technology and Research Scholars, or S.T.A.R.S. initiative, which selects high school students to work in a university laboratory, alongside undergraduates, graduates and professors to build confidence and ignite their love and interest in STEM fields.

Mr. Childress remarked, “The talent evidenced by the educators, scientists, and engineers who were recognized as Winners and Finalists this year, continues to impress and inspire all of South Carolina. InnoVision Announces 2018 Keynote Speaker!

Spartanburg, SC- As South Carolina looks forward to the 20^th Annual InnoVision Technology Awards, the InnoVision Board has released exciting news about this year’s dinner Keynote.

Joshua Stewart Senior Engineering Director at Proterra, will address the assembly at the upcoming November 8th banquet to at the Spartanburg Marriott. Josh has continually gravitated toward exciting vehicles, having served as an Armor Officer in the United States Army, later having worked in professional racing as an engine and powertrain design engineer for various NASCAR teams including RouchYates Racing Engines, and now leading Proterra in the custom design and technical development of 21^st century transit.

Learn to Protect Your Intellectual Property Rights

On August 16, join local business leaders for an event diving into the details of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), sponsored in partnership with South Carolina Manufacturing, The Brickyard, InnoVision, SCRA and the Douglas Kim Law Firm. Business is booming in South Carolina, and across the state, innovation is driving economic and technological developments. But just like any other asset, that innovation must be protected. In fact, the U.S. Department of Commerce noted on July 7, 2016 that, “Intellectual property protection is critical to fostering innovation. Without the protection of ideas, businesses and individuals would not reap the full benefits of their inventions and would focus less on research and development.”

While more and more business owners and innovators are realizing the importance of protecting their intellectual property legally, the initial protection of ideas, research and developments is only one part of the formula; companies who learn how to leverage their IPR through a fully-developed strategy can push ahead of others in what oftentimes can be a race against time itself.

Our presenters will discuss their own IPR strategies—strategies that they confirm have contributed to the successes of their businesses. Presenting will be:

Doug Kim, an attorney practicing in Intellectual Property with the Douglas Kim Law Firm;
Ralph Hulseman, CEO of Hoowaki, LLC;
Cody Reynolds, Tech Transfer for Greenville Health System;
Steve Johnson, Regional Manager for SC Launch; and,

The InnoVision jury panel is composed of consultants, technical leaders, university members, business leaders, and industrial researchers; all located outside the state of South Carolina. The judging process seeks the most significant new innovations in development, integration, sustainability, education, community service, and small enterprise.

The Judges:

Kevin Andrews

Kevin presently serves as Senior Program Manager at NineSigma NA in the Cleveland, Ohio region. He is a physical chemist with a strong background in R&D and a keen ability to connect innovations.

Joonhyung Cho

Joon is presently Director of Business Development, Industry Relations at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He has a strong background in agricultural biotechnology and intellectual property commercialization.

Eloise Young

Eloise is challenge designer for HeroX, a sister organization to XPrize. She is part of the design team for the Base 11 Space Challenge that recently launched. She is an organist chemist operating her own consultancy in Moreland Hills, Cleveland, Ohio.

Don Ross

Don is President of Innovare, Inc. in the greater Boston area. Innovare examines and discovers the backbone of technical problems and utilizes a vast network of contacts and methods to bring solutions to major clients. Prior to starting his company, Don was Director of Innovation at Ocean Spray.

Elizabeth A Newcomb-Hopfer

Beth is Associate Professor, Fashion Merchandising and Design, at NC A&T University in Greensboro, N.C. Beth has a strong background in textile technology and textile management stemming from her graduate studies at N.C. State.

Brad Tompkins

Brad is the CEO of VMware User Group (VMUG), operating out of Franklin, Tennessee. Brad is a global leader in corporate information technology, helping lead his over 100,000 global members in education, strategy, profitability, and operations.

Seetha Coleman-Kummula

Seetha is CEO of the Science, Technology, and Research Institute of Delaware (STRIDE), operating out of Newark, DE. Seetha is truly an international leader, having worked in Amsterdam, Brussels, Houston, UK, Milan, Frankfurt, Midland, and Wilmington. Since 2006, she has strongly focused on Sustainability.
