Creativity Immersion Day

Continental Breakfast (8:30 – 9:00)
This is an informal drop-in breakfast to welcome business participants.
Creativity Techniques Workshop (9:00 – 12:00)
This hands-on, activity rich workshop will focus on the creativity techniques
that the student participants have been developing during the semester.
Techniques to be covered include exercises from Thinkertoys: A Handbook of Creativity
Techniques by Michael Milkalko and Six Thinking Hats by Edward deBono.
A copy these books and other creativity materials will be provided as a gift
for each participant. Facilitated by Dr. Kathy Kegley, developer and instructor
of the course Creativity and Innovation in Business, offered to Clemson University
undergraduates and M.B.A. students.
Student/Business Working Lunch (12:00 – 2:00, Student and Business Participants)
During this extended working lunch, small teams of student and business participants
will apply creativity techniques to develop ideas for a challenge related to business
and creativity, such as “How can the work environment support creativity?” A worksheet
of suggested techniques and a toolkit of creativity materials will be provided.
Each team will deliver a brief ~3 minute presentation summarizing a few of their ideas
as well as comments on which techniques were most effective during ideation.
Speed Creativity (2:00 – 3:00, Student and Business Participants)
This event allows participants to engage in short, 15 minute bursts of information exchange
in areas that can fuel creativity.

- Creativity and Indigenous Knowledge of the Cherokee, Dr. Karen Hall, Dept. of Forestry
- The Role of Identity in Creativity, Dr. Tina Robbins, Dept. of Management
- Insights from Orbiting the Giant Hairball, Mr. Michael Salcido, Dept of Management
What Next? Wine and Cheese Reception (3:00 – 4:00, Creativity Mentors and Business Participants)
With opening remarks by Michael Mino, participants are invited to use this opportunity to
reflect on the day’s events and discuss possible future events that promote creative thinking
in upstate businesses.
